Bird's Eye Brooklyn

A daily map of what is on tonight in Williamsburg and Greenpoint.

Bird's Eye Brooklyn answers one question: what is happening near me, right now, that I could still walk to. Every live music show, film screening, comedy night, reading, market and park event we can find in Williamsburg and Greenpoint is placed on a single map of the neighbourhood, with the time, the price and a link to the venue's own page for the event.

It is built for the evening you decide to go out an hour before you leave. Nothing needs an account, nothing asks who you are, and the day you land on is today. If you are planning further ahead the same map moves forward a day at a time, so a Saturday can be looked at on a Wednesday.

Where the listings come from

Each venue is read from a source that venue publishes itself — its own calendar page, its ticketing feed, or the city's permit data for events in the parks. Nothing is aggregated from another listings site, and nothing is written by hand, so an event appears here because the people running it said it was happening. Every source is re-checked on a schedule, and a venue whose page stops answering is flagged rather than quietly dropped.

These are the places covered today:

What is coming

Bushwick and Park Slope later this year. The map is built neighbourhood by neighbourhood on purpose: a listing is only useful if it is complete for the few square blocks you are actually standing in, and completeness takes longer than coverage does.

Who makes it

Bird's Eye Brooklyn is made by one person in Williamsburg. If a listing is wrong, a venue is missing, or something on the site is broken, there is a "Something wrong?" link on the map itself — it sends the report straight to the person who can fix it, with the screen you were looking at attached.
