Questions about Bird's Eye Brooklyn
What the map shows, and where it gets it.
What is Bird's Eye Brooklyn?
A daily map of what is on tonight in Williamsburg and Greenpoint — live music, film, comedy, readings, markets and park events, all on one map with the time, the price and a link to the venue.
What does it cost?
Nothing. There is no charge, no subscription and no advertising.
Do I need an account?
No. The map works fully signed out. An account does exactly one thing: it makes the events you save follow you to another device.
Where do the events come from?
From each venue's own calendar, its ticketing feed, or the city's permit data for events in the parks. Nothing is copied from another listings site and nothing is typed in by hand, so an event is here because the people running it published it. The full list of venues covered is on the about page.
How often does it update?
Every morning. The board is rebuilt daily, so what you see is that day's listings rather than a cached week.
Which neighbourhoods does it cover?
Williamsburg and Greenpoint today. Bushwick and Park Slope later this year. Coverage is added a neighbourhood at a time, because a listing is only useful when it is complete for the blocks you are standing in.
A venue I like is missing. Can it be added?
Usually, yes — the requirement is that the venue publishes its own calendar somewhere a machine can read every day. Use the "Something wrong?" link on the map to say which venue, and it goes straight to the person who maintains the sources.
Something on the map is wrong.
Please say so. The same "Something wrong?" link sends the report with the screen you were looking at attached — the day, the view, and which venues you had switched on — so it can be reproduced without a round of questions.
What happens to my data?
Very little, and it is all written down on the privacy page: no advertising, no trackers following you around the web, and no record of which event you saved.
